We made five architectural decisions in the last month that sound boring but nearly broke everything. Each one emerged from watching OMIE fail in production.

The Prediction Black Hole
Our Prediction Intelligence Engine (PIE) was reading from a table called prediction_outcomes for calibration. The table stayed empty. PIE kept running calibration routines on nothing.
We had built the reader but forgotten the writer.
This seems obvious now. But when you are building a system that makes predictions about user behavior, market trends, and content performance, you focus on the prediction algorithms. You optimize the models. You tune the confidence thresholds.
You forget someone needs to write down what actually happened.
The fix required adding outcome tracking to every prediction point. When OMIE predicts a user will complete onboarding, we log that prediction. When the user actually completes or abandons onboarding, we write the outcome.
Now PIE has real feedback. Our success metric is simple: prediction_outcomes row count greater than zero after our first experiment winner.
The Collective Intelligence Gap
Founding members join OMIE for collective intelligence. They want to share patterns with other companies and learn from their experiences.
But we had no system to promote individual insights to collective knowledge.
A founding member at a SaaS company discovers that users who complete profile setup within 24 hours have 3x higher retention. That insight sits in their company data. Other SaaS founders never see it.
We built the tier_promoter_activation system to solve this. When two or more companies show the same pattern, OMIE promotes it to collective intelligence.
The founding member who first identified the pattern gets credit. Other members get access to validated insights from similar companies.

When an experiment performed poorly, we could not trace back to understand why OMIE chose those parameters. When content recommendations missed the mark, we had no record of the decision logic.
Debugging an AI system without decision logs is like debugging code without error messages.
Agent_decision_logging now captures every autonomous choice OMIE makes. The decision context, the options considered, the selection criteria, and the confidence level.
This is not just for debugging. Founding members want to understand how OMIE thinks. They want to see the reasoning behind recommendations.

The Onboarding Cliff
Founding members were signing up and then disappearing. They would install the extension, maybe download the desktop app, then never return.
We had built powerful tools but no guidance on how to use them.
The founding_member_onboarding_flow creates explicit milestones for the first week. Install the extension. Connect your first data source. Run your first experiment. Set up desktop notifications.
Each milestone includes contextual help and progress tracking. Members can see what they have completed and what comes next.
We are measuring extension and desktop milestone completion rates. The target is 60% completion within the first seven days.
The Causal Graph Dead End
OMIE builds causal graphs to understand how different factors influence outcomes. User acquisition affects trial conversion. Trial length affects purchase decisions. Feature usage affects retention.
But the causal graph never got validated with real experiment data.
We could build beautiful models showing theoretical relationships. But without experiment results, we could not confirm which causal edges actually mattered.
Causal_edge_reinforcement_from_experiments feeds winning experiment data back into the causal graph. When an experiment shows that email frequency affects conversion rates, we strengthen that causal edge.
When experiments fail to show a relationship, we weaken or remove that edge.
The causal graph becomes a living model that improves with each experiment we run.
We track causal_edges row count. It should grow after our first experiment winner as OMIE validates theoretical relationships with real data.
What We Learned About AI Architecture
These five fixes share a common pattern. We built the intelligence but forgot the feedback loops.
AI systems need continuous learning from their own performance. Predictions need outcomes. Decisions need audit trails. Models need validation data.
The architecture decisions that seem boring are often the most critical. Logging systems. Feedback loops. Data flow between components.
You can have the smartest prediction algorithms in the world. But if the system never learns whether its predictions were right or wrong, it never gets smarter.
We are building OMIE in public because these architectural challenges are universal. Every AI system that learns from real user behavior hits these same problems.
The difference is whether you design the feedback loops from the start or bolt them on later when everything breaks.
We chose option two. It was messier but faster to market. Now we know what actually matters for an AI system that has to improve itself.
